Case studies
Gyvlon® Screed products have many benefits to the specifier and client and are often chosen for varied reasons, perhaps the main contractor requires a reduction in program so Gyvlon is chosen as it is 10 times faster to install or an Eco Village requires a low carbon high recycled content screed to compliment their underfloor heating. Below are just some of the projects we are proud to have been involved and associated with.

Thermio & XTR - Private Residential (Newington Causeway) CS001
Type of Project: |
Private Residential Development 47 floor high rise |
Project name: | 251 Newington Causeway |
Date: | 16th March 2018 |
Location: | Elephant and Castle, London |
Applied m2: | 35,000 m2 |
Technology applied: | Thermio / XTR |
Substrate: | 50mm thick floating floor on insulation |
Screed supplier: | Tarmac Silvertown |
Screedlayer: | TCS Screeding |
Other: | 47 floors. Thermio to go 30 floors up |
The challenge
To pump Thermio over 20 floors. TCS took the challenge on and proved successful.
The solution
Gyvlon Thermio+ liquid screed was chosen as the screed depth is thinner than the original specification, giving better insulation depth and a better performance for the UFH with Thermio’s guaranteed Thermal Performance.
Results
The tripods were set at 2m spacing, ensuring an SR2 finish was achieved with minimum effort.
TCS managed to keep the cost down as there was no need for an additional pump and it was installed faster.
Excelio - High Rise Apartments (Carolyn House) CS003
Type of Project: |
High Rise Apartments |
Project name: | Carolyn House |

Screed supplier: | Tarmac Silvertown |
Screedlayer: | TCS Screeding |
The challenge
They needed an SR1 thin floor finish, but there was no insulation on the project.
The solution
Gyvlon Excelio liquid screed was an ideal screed for this as the screed depth is ultrathin (12 to 20mm).
Results
This gave an excellent SR1 floor finish.
XTR - Refurbishment (Derby Civic Centre) CS005
Type of Project: |
Refurbishment |
Project name: | Derby Civic Centre |
Location: | Clarke Street, Derby |
Applied m2: | 11,000 m2 |
Technology applied: | XTR |
The challenge
Refurbishment of a historic building to form an office complex for Derby City Council. The existing floor was in poor repair and degraded and the architects had restrictions on floor build up.
With time being of the essence the main contractor needed a material which could be installed quickly and safely.
The solution
Gyvlon XTR was chosen for its increased strength, due to the commercial applications (C35/F7). XTR can be laid at 40mm reducing the floor section compared to sand cement screed.
Results
40mm XTR Gyvlon screed resolved all the issues and 11,000m2 was successfully installed to the delight of the main contractor.
